Reality Redux (poem)
Before probability happened
We lived in a magic world
Where dreams were real
Where energies flowed with definitive beauty
We floated with our peers
Unburdened and unburned
by the taxonomy of the Educated
Books were enough:
They helped us fly without runways and wings.
Afternoon snacks fuelledthe intoxication of youth.
There we were, powered by words
Garnished by flutters of the heart.
Life was a living art.
The walls grew quietly around us
Like big tidal waves they did surround us
We traded our dreams
For self-conscious cleverness.
We now stare into a moonlit abyss
Looking inside a mystical well
For a sky that slipped off from beneath our feet.
