Translating Bollywood lyrics--An attempt at cracking Kaifi

I thought I might have a go at rendering into English some of the great songs of Bollywood. The metre, the emotions and the meaning are all a challenge, so my efforts are humble...but daring is part of the fun. So here goes my effort on a 1973 clssic, set to soulful music by Madan Mohan. I am putting the Hindi/Urdu originals from Kaifi Azmi below the English translation, just to see if the translation stands on its own.
---

Tears well up, as I recall those days
It’s been aeons since a smile graced my face
Tears well up, as I recall those days.

I did look back at each weary step,
My wistful eyes did glance at his place
Though I had left his court, I must say, in haughty haste

Life throbs still, but lies swathed in aches
And pains stalk my heart, and its mystery gates
Tears well up, as I recall those days

My delicate nerves go where my pains go
None should haunt one’s memories so.

Tears swell, as I recount those days
Tears well up, as I recall those days.

Aaj Socha (Hanste Zakhm, 1973, Kaifi Azmi) – Translation

Aaj sochaa to aansoo bhar aaye
muddate ho gayee muskuraye

har kadam par udhar mud ke dekhaa
unakee mahafil se hum uthh to aaye

rah gayee jindagee dard ban ke
dard dil mein chhupaaye chhupaaye

dil kee naajuk rage tootatee hain
yaad itanaa bhee koee naa aaye

  3. Lovely song a lovely translation. I enjoy attempting translation of lyrics, too.

Here's my take on this one. Hope it is worth something:)

When I think of it, I realize, it’s been a while
Since I felt some joy…since my last smile

With each step I walked, I turned back to see
I had forsaken your world, but , had I, really?

Life is all but pain now
Hidden in the heart and how

So fragile… it hurts , it aches
Your memories haunt, my heart they break…

    **************

    Regards
