Bittersweet (poem)

Scars lie scattered
Like kisses
Over memories
Spread
As beach-tanned bodies
Blessed by the afternoon sun.

In unknown lands
Of unspeakable beauty.
In the whiff of failed starts
A bittersweet success lingers
Of goals achieved
In weary labour
Inspired by the hopes
Of another age
When dreams appeared
More real
Than the enchanting medals
That Fate thrust
Upon an unsuspecting bosom
That merely craved
For joyous heartbeats.

In the wilderness
Of pickaxe kisses
Strange dreams remain
